Fightening Obesity With Zylorin

Americans spend 33 billion a year on weight loss products and services. In spite of this, obesity kills 300,000 yearly - second only to tobacco that is responsible for 400,000 deaths annually. With over 64 million obese adults, America is in the midst of an obesity epidemic.

The weight-loss jungle, however is fraught with a lot of pitfalls. Choosing a safe and effective diet pill can be a big pain in the neck, especially with the conflicting news and reviews you'll find on the web. The only way to be sure you'll get what you paid for is to scrutinize a product's active ingredients. Zylorin is a fat burner designed exclusively for those people that are significantly overweight. Zylorin contains a proprietary blend of 9 fat burning herbal compounds. The product promises to curb cravings and manage appetite. Is Zylorin an effective formula? Let's take a closer look.

Zylorin contains hoodia gordonii, a flowering succulent or water-storing plant found in the hot Kalahari Desert in Africa. This protected plant, also called "Bushman's Hat" and Queen of the Namib", is known for its ability to suppress appetite. The San Bushman tribe have used this plant for thousands of years to keep them full and give them energy during their long treks in the scorching desert.

Hoodia's active ingredient P57 was first isolated by the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in 1977 and patented in 1996. Seeing hoodia's potential as an appetite suppressant, CSIR granted a license to British company Phytopharm which, in turn, sold the development and marketing rights to pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. Pfizer later claimed it was difficult to synthesize P57 and released the rights to the primary ingredient in 2002.

Several scientific studies have established hoodia's role in suppressing appetite. In the 1960s, scientists found it stopped rodents from eating. In another study, hoodia helped seven overweight people lose an average of 10 pounds in 28 days, according to Dr. Richard M. Goldfarb, medical director of Bucks County Clinical Research in Morrisville, Pennsylvania. Following CBS reporter Leslie Stahl's endorsement of hoodia in 60 Minutes, this unknown plant invaded the USA and is now being marketed in several forms including pills, coffee and tea products, protein shakes, and lollipops.

Chromium, a hard, odorless, and tasteless metal that is used to tan leather, make rubies red, and manufacture magnetic tape, is required in trace amounts for sugar metabolism in humans. Because of its ability to burn carbohydrates and fats and its potential role in curbing food cravings, chromium is a popular slimming aid. In one study, six weeks of chromium supplementation resulted in a significant decrease in body fat among athletes. In another, 20 micrograms of chromium daily led to weight loss even without changes in food intake and exercise. A recent double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 180 subjects with type 2 diabetes in China demonstrated that high chromium supplementation improved insulin and cholesterol levels.

Although it is a close relative of cholesterol, beta-sitosterol is known for its cholesterol-lowering activity as reported by University of Wisconsin researchers. This was first known in 1951. Researchers have yet to discover why this happens but beta-sitosterol appears to inhibit the absorption of dietary cholesterol, making it a popular ingredient of margarines, spreads, and salad dressings.

Another noteworthy ingredient in Zylorin is citrus aurantium or bitter orange. This fruit comes from a flowering tree and its peel is valued in medicine for containing synephrine, a compound similar to ephedra that can speed up a person's metabolism, break down fat, and suppress one's appetite. With its ability to control weight, bitter orange is a worthy addition to Zylorin's complete arsenal of fat-burning ingredients.

Of all the products I've examined, Zylorin fits my description of an ideal weight loss supplement since it contains a potent mix of fat burners that will enhance your diet and exercise program and help you attain your ideal weight. My confidence in this product is well-founded considering the amount of care it took in making Zylorin. The manufacturer obviously knows what works and has incorporated the best ingredients in this popular product.

Prevent Heart Disease

With the advancement in medicine over the last 30 years Heart Disease is one of the most preventable diseases known to science. A much more pro-active approach is taken by both the patient and the doctor in preventing and treating heart disease. One of the best ways to prevent heart disease is to modify the patient's outlook on diet and exercise.

In the past unless a patient had symptoms of some illness a visit to the doctor just did not happen. The only time a medical professional suggested any type of preventive treatment for heart disease was when the patient had symptoms, was of advanced age, or had a family history of the disease. Now, thankfully, a much more pro-active approach is taken by both the patient and the doctor in preventing heart and treatment of disease.

Medical groups such as the American Medical Association and the American Heart Association actively advertise that a diet low in fat and low in calories is a great way to lower a person's cholesterol, which is a major risk factor when it comes to heart disease. Along with a regular exercise routine and regular monitoring by the family doctor the risk of you developing heart disease has greatly been reduced.

Prevention is now a team effort. Routine monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol level, general weight and health, as well as indications of other diseases that might complicate the situation are all very important things that both you and your chosen medical professional should be on the look out for.

Some of the over the counter products available today can react with prescription medication prescribed by your doctor. Taking something as simple as aspirin can react with other blood thinners and you could be putting yourself at risk for a stroke or a heart attack. There are many drugs and over the counter products available to help prevent heart disease, and your doctor can discuss all the options available. Whether or not prescription drugs or over the counter products are needed for your situation should be decided after a serious consultation with your doctor and some monitoring of your health and lifestyle.

Common Vitamins and over the counter products can help with Heart Disease such as Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Niacin, Oat Bran, and Pectin.

All of the different Vitamin Bs taken together as B-Complex work together as a team to perform vital biological processes, such as energy production and efficient metabolic function. Vitamin B boost energy levels and help fight fatigue.

Vitamin C has show to reduce cholesterol levels and lowers high blood pressure.

Niacin is the closest thing available to a perfect treatment that corrects most causes of coronary heart disease. Niacin blocks the release of fatty acids from fat cells. Niacin plays a critical role in energy production, gene expression, and hormone synthesis. You cannot live without it. Niacin also tends to shift LDL particle distribution to larger particle size and improve HDL functioning. The intake of 3 grams Niacin for as little as two weeks can reduce serum cholesterol by 26 percent.

Oat Bran helps to regulate blood glucose levels, aids in lowering cholesterol, and helps in the removal of toxins.

Pectin limits the amount of cholesterol the body can absorb. High pectin count in apples may be why One a day keeps the doctor away.

If you are at risk from Heart Disease then find a good health care professional prior to starting any type of home treatment.

Always consult your doctor before using this information.

FDA Approved AEDs

In some cases, when the automated external defibrillator unit is also used by paramedics in hospitals for monitoring different events, the AED needs to have a screen as well. It is very useful to see all the AED commands on a big screen, so that the defibrillation is performed correctly. Most automated external defibrillators have small screens that are also very useful. For specialized AED equipment a printer is also highly recommended and very helpful in keeping the record of the defibrillation. It is also useful when the defibrillation process is reported, as this provides you with an excellent record of the event.

In most cases, after having performed a public defibrillation, the event must be recorded and reported for medical control. The event may have a written record. However, if more complex statistics are required than you should probably choose a multifaceted FDA approved automated external defibrillator - in some cases the info will need to be downloaded and collected by the centers that handle and deposit this evidence.

The US Food and Drug Administration have currently approved some cutting edge medical AED devices. The Heartstream FR2 AEDs (model numbers M3860A and M3861A) and Laerdal Heartstart FR2 AEDs (model numbers M3840A and M3841A) with Attenuated Defibrillation Pads (model number M3870A) are some recently FDA approved AED models. These models are specially designed to save young children's lives by restoring a normal cardiac rhythm.

In order to make this device work on young children, the manufacturers have attached some attenuators on the pads of the automated external defibrillator. These attenuators reduce the shock that is delivered to the child by almost 60%. These models are effective on children under 8 or under 55 pounds of weight. However, it may be used on adults as well, if no other AED is available in an emergency situation. These new models of FDA approved AEDs for young children may reduce the number of deaths among children who go through a sudden cardiac arrest.

The HeartStart may be used on adults or children over the age of 8 in case of sudden cardiac arrest or if the patient does not breathe normally or does not respond when shaken. The HeartStart is specially designed for home use. Special adhesive pads are available by prescription in case you need to use this device on young children.

This automatic external defibrillator is intended for home emergencies. Still, you will have to call for an ambulance, as this procedure does not replace proper medical care. After the procedure has been performed, a paramedic should do a check-up on the patient.

Lift Recliners - How To Choose The Best Lift Chair Recliner

In today's internet market, lift recliner manufactures are developing products that are internet friendly. Meaning retailers and manufactures of lift recliner chairs are able to provide well manufactured and quality web sites to help consumers pick their perfect lift recliner without leaving the comfort of their homes. Consumers are spending more time researching and learning about products that can help them regain mobility. The only problem is the lack of information to help consumers make the right decisions. In this article, consumers will learn the best way to go about picking and buying their perfect lift recliner chair.

Sizing a lift recliner to fit the person is absolutely necessary to ensure the chair fits a users needs. If the lift recliner is not sized properly, it could be a very costly mistake and leave the consumer with an improperly fitting lift chair recliner.

There are 3 major factors to consider when sizing a lift recliner. Everyone is made differently with different shapes and sizes. It is very important to have a lift recliner that fits the owner's size and frame. Manufactures today are making lift recliners in every size possible. From petite to the big and tall, no matter what size or shape a person may be, there is a lift recliner to meet their needs.

Most lift recliner manufactures will recommend an electric recliner by height. Models are defined in size ranges. For example, one of the most popular lift recliners on the market is the Pride LL-570. The reason this electric recliner is so popular is because it is recommend for someone within the range of 5-5 to 6-0 foot. So have the owner or users height available when choosing the right lift recliner.

The second variable when choosing a lift recliner is the seat dimensions. People have different sizes and shaped gluteus maximus's. Yes, that is correct, making sure the lift recliner fits the length and width of a persons tush is required to ensure one feels comfortable while sitting in their lift recliner. One can measure the width of their tush by sitting down and measuring from hip to hip. Measure in a few areas and choose the larger number for best comfort. Record this number and have it ready when researching potential lift recliners.

The last factor in choosing the best lift recliner is the weight of the person that will be using the electric recliner. It is very important to select a lift recliner chair that has the ability to lift the person under the recommend weight. Most manufactures will document the maximum weight capacity to help determine the best recliner lift chair. So have the user's weight ready when sizing the proper lift recliner.

Whether one were to choose to order online or over the phone, having this information ready will better ensure the best lift recliner will be purchased. Happy lift recliner hunting.

Using a Calibrated Gauge Monitor to Monitor One's Blood Pressure

When going to the hospital or clinic for a physical, doctors will always start by asking a few questions and then use a stethoscope and a blood pressure monitor as part of the initial test.

The individual's blood pressure is important because it can predict any potential health risks. This is done by strapping a band on the arm of the patient and then pumping a few times so that the gauge will be able to give an accurate reading.

The figures that come out will enable the doctor to recommend what steps should be taken so that such risks can be avoided. Someone overweight for example should go on a diet and exercise to lose those excess pounds while those who are malnourished or fatigued should eat more and get some rest.

If there are no problems, the patient can be released until the next visit, which could be scheduled after another 6 months.

The person doesn't have to wait until it is time once gain to go to the doctor to check on the blood pressure. This is because a battery powered machine can be purchased at the drug store for use at home.

When opening the box, it will be a good idea to read the instructions to be familiar with the instrument. The manual will tell what kind of batteries should be used, where this should be plugged and how this should be placed on the arm.

People know that on average, getting something like 120 over 80 means everything is normal. The machine should always start from zero and then move its way up. If it doesn't, something could be wrong which causes the differences in the readings.

Should this happen, the best thing to do is to stay calm and check on the machine. A lot of things may have caused this such as the strap was not fixed properly or there is something wrong with the battery. When this happens, the individual should readjust the strap or replace the batteries with new ones and get another reading.

But if the batteries are good, then something could be wrong with the machine. The owner should have someone look at the machine or call the customer service hotline usually written in the manual to learn how this can be calibrated.

Are electronic ones better than the mercury models? The answer is no. More people prefer the battery operated ones because these are cheaper and are able to give the same results when calibrated and used properly.

Drugs Which Work For Obese Adults May Not Work For Obese Teens

As with adults the first line of attack for obesity in teenagers is normally a carefully controlled program of diet and exercise. In many cases however this does not do the trick and so many doctors will move on to supplement this treatment with drugs, commonly choosing a drug which has been used with limited success in adults.

Sibutramine, which is sold within the United States under the trade name of Meridia®, is an appetite suppressant which affects appetite control centers within the brain to decrease appetite and which has been shown to have some affect in assisting with weight loss in adults when taken in combination with a low calorie diet. However, a recent study suggests that it does not produce the same results when used in teenagers.

In adult patients sibutramine increases both the metabolic rate and the feeling of fullness so that fewer calories are consumed and more of those calories are burned off but, in a trial involving twenty four teenagers who were given either sibutramine or a placebo the same affects were not forthcoming.

At the end of a twelve week trial the weight loss of patients in both groups was virtually identical although, interestingly enough, weight in the group given sibutramine stabilized following the trial but actually continued in the placebo group.

In both groups body composition and metabolic rates were measured using underwater weighing techniques and x-ray imaging and no significant differences were found between the two groups.

In addition, resting metabolic rates were measured for both groups and, while the rate decreased at first in the placebo group and remained constant in the sibutramine group, it later increased in the placebo group and decreased in the sibutramine group.

Overall it would seem that for some reason, which is as yet not understood, not only does sibutramine not assist obese teenagers in losing weight, but it might actually slow the rate of weight loss in the longer term.

5 Reasons For Not Putting Off Gastric Bypass Surgery

For many patients gastric bypass surgery is very much a last resort and something to be put off as long a possible while they explore all of their other options. Indeed, in most cases patients are assisted in this by their doctor who, following tradition, will insist on an extended program of diet and exercise before even considering referring a patient for surgery. But is this approach sensible?

Apart from the fact that most people agree that diet and exercise don't work and are a complete waste of time for the vast majority of patients, there is strong evidence to suggest that delaying surgery is actually putting patients at risk.

In a recent study the records of more than 2,000 patients who underwent gastric bypass surgery between 1995 and 2004 in one particular medical center were examined. The team carrying out the study wanted to see whether there were any factors which would have predicted the risks for these patients before they underwent surgery and they identified 5 things which they believe increased a patient's risk of surgery.

The first of the five factors was gender, with men being at higher risk than women. The second was a body mass index (BMI) of more than 50. The third was age, with patients over the age of 45 being at higher risk. The fourth was the presence of hypertension (high blood pressure), often related to cardiovascular disease. The final factor was previous evidence of pulmonary embolus (a blood clot in the lungs) or a propensity for this condition.

The team then awarded one point for the presence of each factor and divided the overall study group into those at low, medium and high risk according to their scores. Next, they examined the death rate for each of these three groups and found that in the low risk group the death rate was 0.31%, in the medium risk group it was 1.9% and in the high risk group it was 7.56%.

Now there's not much you can do about your gender but, as far as the other four factors are concerned, the effects of delaying surgery are obvious. Getting older, continuing to put on weight and developing health problems all increase the risks for surgery. So, if you are morbidly obese, then perhaps you should consider early surgery and balance the risks involved in waiting against the chances of finding a successful alternative.

Atherosclerosis - The Disease of the Arteries

Atherosclerosis or the "hardening of the arteries" is the disease of the arteries. It includes coronary heart disease that affects mainly medium to large arteries. There is wide range of risk factors for atherosclerosis leading to chronic inflammation within the walls of the arteries.

The build up of "atheroma" or plaque within the arterial walls are the hall mark of atherosclerosis. This process of the building up of the atheroma is a process called "atherogenesis". This process if mainly due to the infiltration of monocytes (white blood cells) in the outer most layer of the arterial wall due to a damage. Although this phenomenon is not fully understood, it is thought that it is a protective mechanism to engulf access cholesterol. As these monocytes enter the arterial wall it is converted to macrophages (bacteria engulfing cells), a process called "differentiation". This is the start the slow process of atherogenesis. As monocyte differentiates it expresses receptors on its cell surface called "scavenger receptors". They are responsible for attacking bacteria and destroying it. In this cause the receptors are very much "friendly" for cholesterol or more specifically "low density lipoprotein or LDL). This LDL present in the plasma (the blood flow) can sometimes be modified specially by the free radicals in cigarette smoke making it more easily identifiable to the receptors.

Once the receptors engulf cholesterol they can accumulate within the macrophages, it then forms something called a "foam cell". When subsequently large numbers of macrophages have accumulated cholesterol it is called a cholesterol filled "plaque" referred by doctors. This plaque will progress and form a more complicated plaque and form a lesion leading to a blockade of the blood flow. This eventually if unchecked will lead to clinical complications due to the rupture of the lesion. The most common clinical complications of atherosclerosis include heart attacks and stroke due to restricted blood flow to the heart and brain respectively.

Normal Blood Pressure Reading Know-How

So you want to know what your normal blood pressure reading is. The next time you visit the
doctor, you ask the nurse's aide to tell you. That is after she finishes putting the cuff on your arm,
pumping it until you think your arm is going to explode, and then she rattles off a number...
124/86. Well, that is fine, but what does that mean?

A blood pressure reading measures the pumping action of the heart. The first number is a reading
of the systolic pressure, or the pressure exerted by your heart to pump oxygenated blood into the
aorta, the largest blood vessel in the body. This vessel branches off into other, smaller vessels
that oxygenate every organ, tissue and cell in your body. The bottom number, a diastolic
pressure, reads your heart at rest, or between beats.

Blood pressure readings for healthy individuals will usually range around120/80. Some people
may have varying numbers like 124/82 or 126/84 or so. You always get your blood pressure
reading in even numbers, but if someone does give you a reading with an odd number, just round
up to keep things simple. Keep in mind that your age, weight, exercise level and diet may also
have much to do with a blood pressure reading. Some people who exercise a lot and are healthy
have blood pressures hovering around 110 over 70, and that is normal, for them. The same goes
if the numbers are a little higher.

However, a normal blood pressure reading becomes a high blood pressure reading when those
numbers reach around 140/90 or so. There are several different levels typical to high blood
pressure, or hypertension, so speak to your doctor if your levels are over the 126/86 ranges.

It is difficult to pinpoint a single cause for high blood pressure, as many factors usually coincide
to produce the condition. For some, high blood pressure is inherited, and African-Americans
suffer more from high blood pressure, or hypertension, than Caucasians. Medical issues may also
cause a rise in a normal blood pressure reading, so it is a good idea to have your pressure checked
at least periodically. Nearly 65 million Americans suffer from high blood pressure, and countless
others who have not been diagnosed are walking around with the condition without even
realizing it.

As people age, high blood pressure becomes more prevalent. However, preserving a healthy
weight, exercising regularly and eating a well-balanced diet will help to prevent high blood
pressure. Stay away from excess salt, alcohol and high fat diets, and if you smoke, try to quit.
Studies have shown that certain medications may cause high blood pressure, so speak to your
doctor about risks if you are taking certain prescription drugs.

A normal blood pressure reading may not seem like a big deal to many people, but as we grow
older, it may mean the difference between a healthy, active lifestyle, or sitting your later years out
on the bench. Take an active part in your health, especially heart health, and your body, and your
family and friends, will thank you for it.
